Fujifilm has announced Instax Mini 40, a new retro-looking instant camera. While it looks a whole lot different from last year’s Instax Mini 11, the two cameras have a lot in common – but not the price.

The Instax Mini 40 truly looks gorgeous if you ask me. Fujifilm emphasizes logo plate, “premium silver accents” and “high-quality texture” of the design, but that’s almost the only difference between this camera and the Instax Mini 11. The only other difference is the aperture. While the Mini 11 features fixed f/12.7, the new Mini 40 goes between f/5.6 and 16. Everything else, focal length, shutter speed, minimum focus distance, flash recycle time… is exactly the same.

Here are the full specs of the Instax Mini 40:

General

Tripod Mounting Thread None

Dimensions (W x H x D) 4.8 x 4.1 x 2.6″ / 12.2 x 10.4 x 6.6 cm

As I mentioned, the price is another difference between Instax Mini 11 and Mini 40. While the older model still keeps its release price of $69, you’ll pay $100 for the look and aperture of the Mini 40. Still, it is much prettier than the Mini 11, so if you care about the looks, you can preorder it here. Shipping begins on 21 April.
