Zhiyun just announced two new small lights: the Zhiyun MOLUS G60 and the Zhiyun MOLUS X100. Both of those lights are incredibly small for their output and feature unique designs. I find it quite interesting how Zhiyun are expanding into the lighting lines. They are not doing it by copying the “standard” COBs but by trying new things like the Zhiyun FIVERAY F100 (review) and M40 lights. Definitely not the run-of-mill lights.

And coming up with new types of lights does carry a risk. “Standard” COBs are safe. You know there is a market. On the other hand, this is also a very competitive market, so you have to do something to stand out. And Zhiyun are definitely doing things differently. Let’s dive into this new announcement:

Zhiyun MOLUS G60

The Zhiyun MOLUS G60 is a tiny 60 Watts light. It is by color (2700K to 6500K) and runs on  AC power or via a USB-PD accessory that you can buy separately. If you are wondering how small it is, think about fist-size small. This is about the smallest I have seen for a 60-watt light. Even the tiny Colbor CL60 is almost double the size.

To pack this much power in such a tiny space, Zhiyun had to make some choices. For one, this light uses an active fan cooling. If it’s anything like the M40, it is not that noisy, and I would consider it ok for most uses. The other choice has to do with the mounting system. A standard Bowens mount is bigger than the G60, and Zhiyun went with a small proprietary mount. The good news – everything is tiny and packs beautifully. The bad news – all your old Bowens modifiers are no longer relevant here.

Zhiyun MOLUS X100

For me, the Zhiyun MOLUS X100 is the more interesting of the two lights. I have seen many (MANY) 100W lights, but this one has a very non-standard form factor. I can only describe it as an exposed flux capacitor. Zhiyun is introducing a new mounting system for modifiers here, the ZY system.   It is compatible with Bowens mounts with a separately available adapter.
