At almost the same time as Nikon, lens manufacturer 7artisans launched its own version of a fast 24mm APS-C lens. It’s a 24mm f/1.4 lens, slightly faster and significantly cheaper than Nikon’s version. It will set you back only $109, and it comes in Sony E, Fuji X, Canon RF, Nikon Z, EOS-M, and MFT mounts.

The 7artisans 24mm f/1.4 provides a moderate wide-angle field of view (36mm full-frame equivalent on a Nikon). It makes it great for street photography, landscapes, environmental portraits – and anything else that fits your creative decisions, really. It has a 9-blade aperture, and I honestly love the slightly swirly bokeh it generates.

Built with seven elements in six groups (with 2 ED elements and 2 refraction elements), the lens promises sharp and vivid images with minimal distortion. It was made from metal and weighs 344g, so it’s fairly lightweight and perfect if you want to pack light or walk around all day with your camera.

A huge drawback (at least for me) is that the lens focus is only manual. But then again, it’s great if you want to shoot video with it. Along with clickless aperture ring, it could be a good choice for video work. Here are the basic specs:

  • Focal Length:24mm (35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 36mm)
  • Maximum Aperture: f/1.4
  • Minimum Aperture: f/16
  • Lens Format Coverage: APS-C
  • Angle of View: 61°
  • Minimum Focus Distance: 30 cm
  • Optical Design: 7 Elements in 6 Groups
  • Diaphragm Blades: 9
  • Focus Type: Manual
  • Filter Size: 49 mm (Front)
  • Dimensions (ø x L): 61 x 65 mm
  • Weight: 344 g

The 7artisans 24mm f/1.4 is available for orders, and as I mentioned, it’s priced at$109. You can also check out some sample images on the manufacturer’s website to see that bokeh I’m talking about.
